On Monday, 9 June 2014, Foz do Iguaçu recorded its highest ever volume of water passing over the falls, a staggering 46 million liters of water per second, 30 times higher than the normal 1.5 million liters per second. This was the result of heavy rainfall in the southern states, especially Parana. The previous record of 35 million liters had been set back in 1983.
